Luggage:
Currently, nothing.
Uh-oh, looks like this cursed carving travelled a little too far from her home lair, (Volrin, #261879) and now she's off to see the world! If ever you feel the need to exalt, she'd really appreciate it if you could just return her to her home lair, to the 'Dragons Off To See The World' thread, here, or to the hub if you don't want another dragon in return. This is not necessary, but she would be very grateful!

Matryoshka would like to receive a permanent home someday, so if you'd like to adopt her after she's been travelling long enough, just let Volrin know!

Biography:
Matryoshka has been travelling the world since she was but a hatchling. Maybe it wasn't the most responsible upbringing her parents could have provided for her, but in their words, "meh, it builds character." Thanks to the reckless lack of parental supervision she was offered as a child, the little Tundra toddled her way into the Sunbeam Ruins, and ended up lost in the maze-like ruins of the Hewn City at no more than a few weeks old!

The little fluffball found herself cornered by strange, threatening beasts made of pulsing fog. Her fearful cries brought a plague doctor and exterminator working within the ruined city -- Aqua the Coatl, who resided within a nearby clan -- to her aid, thankfully! The Coatl came flying as fast as she could, obliterating the Shade-born creatures with a beam of red-hot searing magic from her staff, and saved the child's life... but not before a strange curse had already befallen Matryoshka.

Nowadays, as a young adult, the Tundra isn't nearly as defenseless. Her travels earlier in life have taught her that the only dragon she can truly rely on is herself, and as such, Matryoshka learned to fight from Coliseum scavengers that would humour her and bring her along on their expeditions. The clan whose plague doctor saved her life offered to house Matryoshka for a time, and she took them up on the offer initially, but left as soon as she felt she was old enough to stand on her own; the Tundra was beginning to fear becoming a burden.

As for the curse that wormed its way into her body in the Hewn City, well... it was still in full effect. Try as she might, the Tundra had found no way to break it as of yet. Well, what is this curse, you might be asking? Well, at just a glance it's nigh-unnoticeable. But if one were to lean in and inspect Matryoshka more closely, they would find that her fur is not fur at all, but intricately-carved wood. Each of the joints in her legs, wings, tail, and jaw alike creak like the boughs of an old oak with each movement. She cannot fly, for the Tundra's body has been turned to wood right through to her core, and she's impossibly heavy for a dragon her size -- even something as simple as walking around can be cumbersome for her, at times.

Whatever foul magic befell Matryoshka that fateful day, has cursed her to roam Sornieth as a wooden statue for the rest of her life!

But the Tundra still has hope for a cure... somewhere, somehow. She's already spent so much of her life as a nomad, what's a little more travelling going to hurt? Hopping from clan to clan, Flight to Flight, Matryoshka intends to find a dragon well-versed in spells and curses who would be able to revert her back to her old, flesh-and-blood self.

Or maybe she'll just find herself a nice home clan in the Viridian Labyrinth, where she can at least thrive given her situation? At this point, the Tundra will take what she can get!

Travel Log:

Strangeflesh: Rain poured from the red sky, and brambles caught Matryoshka's paws. She'd been running through the plague-shadow lands for hours, and her skin stung. The wet earth squished, and tiny thorns pricked her skin. No matter how long she ran, the pain only dulled, not gone. She could barely walk. Her chest heaved, and her throat burned. Her wooden skin was caked with bile, and sap-like blood oozed from her wounds. Matryoshka couldn’t move any longer, so she collapsed onto the ground. Maybe if she just stayed still, she would be safe. Matryoshka could feel the curse getting worse, she could feel her arms and legs stiffening. She could just wait this out. But she saw a dark shape in the fog, a creature with oozing black eyes and rotting skin approached her. It looked and smelled like a Shade-touched beast, something coming to murder Matryoshka, or worse. She fainted from exhaustion and fear, bracing for the worst.

When she woke up, she was in a small, dilapidated cottage, sitting on a moldy couch. The Shade-beast was staring at him, getting ready to rip out her throat…or was it? No, this wasn’t a Shade-beast, he had bandaged her up and given her tea. She didn’t know what it was, but he seemed kind.
“Hello? Are you gonna hurt me?” She muttered.
He shook his head.
“…Can you talk?”
He shook his head, and wrote something on a piece of paper.
“I see you are cursed. You are a wooden statue, brought to life?”
“No. I was cursed from a normal tundra into this body, if that makes sense.”
He nodded, before scrawling: “I am cursed too. I am undead. My body is rotting, but my mind and soul are not.”
“I see. Well, thank you for rescuing me. This body isn’t fit for traveling much. Could I stay here for a while? Until I feel better?”
He nodded his head.

Because of their shared curses, Cystinosis and Matryoshka became close over the months, helping each other with their difficulties in life. She didn’t find a cure, but she did find three wooden eggs. Were these her’s? How was that even possible? And how come she didn’t remember laying them? She talked to Cystinosis about it, but he didn’t know either. But they agreed on one thing: the eggs smelled like the Shade. This must have something to do with the true nature of her curse, and how to reverse it, so before the cursed eggs would hatch, she left back into the world.
