Kei was found abandoned on the temple’s steps as a child of three. He was found and taken in by Jin’nai, then a mere acolyte, and since then Kei has grown up under the strict but caring tutelage of his little found family. Now in the cusp of adulthood, he wants to break away from their shadow and find his own path.

He felt Talok’s heavy hand on his shoulder, “Just like that kid, well done.” He spoke in his usual gruff tone, though Kei could hear a dash of mirth seeping through his words.

Kei lowered his practice sword, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead “Thank you, dad.”

“Huh?”

Realizing what he’d just said, Kei felt his face grow hotter by the second. He opened his mouth to backpedal but stopped short when he saw the older man smiling –genuinely– for the first time.
