||The Unearthly Night Watchmen||



The first of the four in the night guards, Nocni was the original dragon to be appointed in the position of night watch due to her impeccable dark plumage. She and the other three members patrol various areas around the lair to keep everyone else safe while they’re asleep. Having the abilities of the earth flight she is able to use her surroundings to her advantage and living within a land with floating crystals and landmass means she does not fall short of anything to use as a weapon and will do anything to protect her follow clan members. She is the 'final stand' of the four and never leaves a small island near the gateway, often unmoving in her watch which makes her very unnerving to catch in the middle of the night if you’re returning late from the trading post but she will give you a soft “good evening”, possibly an update on the watch or a small quip about the stars or the weather.

Due to her fearsome strength many wondered why Nocni would want to join this clan and then fight so hard to protect it. Nocni’s story is like many others, abandonment. As a hatchling she showed impressive talent for her magical powers but they were tied to heavily to her emotions. A tantrum would result in a great fissure opening up within the hatchery. Even for earth dragons it can be too much to deal with and easier to dump the child on some unsuspecting clan. After being passed around a while even into her teens she grew resentful and closed off. When she eventually joined this one she didn’t expect to stay long but she was presented with the offer of being the first member of the night watch as the clan had heard of her power. Untrusting, she didn’t take the job seriously at first but the time alone made her realise how when she returned to the group they showed genuine interest in her time and wellbeing. It took a while, but she gradually opened up. She still doesn’t find it easy to talk to other folks, but a small one liner here and there is still great leaps and bounds ahead of what she used to be like.

An exceptionally powerful dragon she takes pride in her work, returning at dawn to swap with the day watch which is on a greater rotation than the night watch seeing as less camouflage is needed. Some joke that if it wasn’t for her all the floating islands would come crashing down but in truth shes only ever hurled an island at one group of intruders so she has no idea how that rumour started up. It wasn’t even a big one either! Perfectly throwable with minimal loss.

True to her nature she likes to present possible mates with small gifts she finds before beginning her watch as she preforms a perimeter scan before settling in her spot for the night. As she is rarely seen during the day you might be able to catch her in the early hours of the mornings as the sun is rising doing one last sweep of the sky before returning to the lair for dinner and a rest, she and the other guards welcome anyone to eat with them when they come back as they rarely socialise outside their circle and like to be updated on new members and goings on.

Nocni’s daughter Lilak regularly visits her for an early morning catch up, sometimes her father Badi would join them as he deeply admired Nocni but neither are looking for a mate just yet but they take great pride in their daughter even if their relationship isn’t conventional. Lilak often alchemises different bits and pieces for her mother, often providing her with new familiars that shes cooked up specially for her to help guard the lair by her side.

Once Tyra joined the clan as a very effective guard, Nocni was able to loosen up a little. The two have formed a decent relationship and Tyra is one of the few dragons who can actually get a full conversation out of her. Usually only while she’s in her crystal form, but still. She can still hear her in this state and simply listens. Seems Nocni actually has quite a lot to say…
