 Pestilence, the First of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

Pestilence comes first: quietly, gently, patiently. Creeping up slowly, lulling all into complacency. Small things first, like a particularly dry summer that comes more and more frequently. Or a winter that is a touch colder and harsher than the one before it.

By the time one realises its presence, it is already too late.

It takes the young and old, the poor and ill. Preying on the vulnerable, while the powerful do little to stop it. For Pestilence is acting on them too; a sickening apathy to the woes of the weak, of those they pledged to protect, blindly squabbling among one another while their people die around them.

Pestilence widens the gap between the Haves and Have-Nots, paving the way for its fellow Horsemen to arrive.
