Biography
Shilan is extremely dignified and extremely private. He will turn thoughts over in his head for days or even weeks before mentioning them to the clanmate whose conversation or experiment caught his attention. His observations may be incisively genius, or they may be wildly far from the original subject, but they are always interesting.
Shilan often seeks remote locations in which to sit and ponder. One day in a distant valley, a male harpy--the first Shilan had ever seen or, in fact, heard of--soared overhead. Shilan remained motionless, thinking about this. The harpy, believing the valley deserted, landed on a nearby rock and began studying a scroll of wisdom lore by an ancient harpy sage. Shilan read over his shoulder for some hours until he was moved to ask a question about the sage's teachings.
The harpy, after overcoming near heart failure, realized it was a cogent question and answered. Shilan would likely have regretted startling a female harpy, who are trained to war, but as he discovered the males are trained to learning. The pair found kindred souls in one another and conversed the rest of the day. The harpy at last had to leave before his flock's matriarchs came searching--they would surely kill Shilan for his trespass--but he and Shilan continue to meet in secret to study.
Shilan has not mentioned one bit of this to any of his clanmates.
