Perhaps the most dreaded card in a Tarot deck, the Tower is a representation of destruction
The Tower often comes up when everything in your life feels like its crumbling and you have no way of stopping it

The message of this card is to just let it fall
The weakest parts of your life must be torn down in order to build something strong and sturdy in their place
-- something that can last a lifetime.

__ It is often said that deities come into existence and dictate the world around them, not the other way around. Their presence within the world dominates aspects of life, and they are to be revered and feared in every aspect. Sometimes they are ignored or discarded and replaced with new visages. But most gods do not truly exist in a picture-perfect state, and the few that do are indeed revered and feared, ensuring they are never forgotten. Hela is not one of those gods.

Hela was not spawned into existence, nor were they created as a monument of an aspect of life. They are not revered nor are they remembered by other dragons around them. Hela exists as a strange medium, neither alive nor dead. They are an ever-changing construct with no real form or appearance, though most often they choose to assume the form of a Gaoler with burning eyes. Most mortals that have come into contact with Hela do not see their appearance, but instead recall that there was a burning feeling within them that could best be described as simultaneous extreme discomfort and calmness.

Representing the tarot card of the Tower, Hela is best described as the reigning deity of change, hence their ever-invisible appearance and overall lack of regard among mortals. The most common tale shared among verbal storytelling is that they appeared from the ruins of a broken tower that had been overtaken with vegetation. Within the next day, the vegetation off the tower was burned and the tower was rebuilt once again. Their true origin is largely unknown, and it is most commonly accepted that they simply exist.

Hela has been a deity for an indeterminate amount of time. Their age could be 10 one day and 1 million the next. Being the embodiment of change, Hela’s attitude about life and disposition are in constant turmoil. Being that nothing is constant for them, they must be careful to regulate themselves or will otherwise retreat and be overwhelmed with emotion, unable to handle the weight of their responsibilities as a deity. It is hard for them to maintain this façade.

However, it is important to remember that she is a deity that is regarded less as being a celebrity or a role model and more as a facet and part of life. Hela adamantly stands by this concept and does occasionally attempt to punish those that refuse the call of change, often with little result. However, they remain vigilant even despite their own personal emotional swings and those that deny her existence.

Hela’s residence is not a tower, but rather in the trunk of a tree that is changing seasons every day. It cycles through being bare, sprouting, leafing and losing leaves constantly and is enchanted to always bear their signature. He lives deep within this tree, remaining hidden away for weeks at a time while still exercising power over those seeking or avoiding change. The god never rests, remaining unblinking and awake for all of time.

Ever since their existence, Hela is unaware of the existence of other gods and does not even regard themselves as a god at times, simply a guardian of the idea of change. They do not acknowledge or accept the traditional rites of other deities, instead using their powers simply to cause change in the life of others. Aside from exercising abilities on those refusing change, Hela has a neutral view towards mortals.

Unlike most gods, Hela does not have traditional sacrifices or regular prayer. Instead, as mentioned previously, mortals leave her small items ranging from their childhood to items they’ve just acquired and also leave her a small paper describing the changes they want in their life. Hela will see these small offerings, often scattered along a path, and then cast her ability on those who seeking it. Hela cannot control what follows.

Once a mortal has been given Hela’s blessing, change, whether great or awful, starts in their life and is random in its duration and effects. It is considered a gauntlet for most to endure, so mortals typically do not leave Hela offerings unless they believe the change they want is big enough to warrant it, like a pilgrimage, accepting loss, or other great forms of change in one’s life. Hela accepts all tributes, but favors items that have been damaged and new alike.
