There are rumors that the heaven-touched hold a vision in each eye. That they love only with the intensity of a thousand burning stars, or not at all. That they have a sixth sense for the movements of the celestial and the supernatural. Some dragons say that the heaven-touched are blessed by the gods. Others say that they’re cursed.
If you were to ask Volonte about the truth of these rumors, he would neither confirm nor deny them. Then, with his ever-present smile, he would shift the conversation onto a topic that would make you wonder how exactly he knew that you wouldn’t want to talk about this subject and maybe you’d like to end your encounter with this strange dragon as soon as possible.
Volonte’s gift has caused him to distance himself from other dragons. He is known to be friendly, but not very nice. It’s easy to smile at strangers on the street who he’ll never see again, but harder to make real connections with others when he thinks that they just want to take advantage of him. Volonte builds up walls between himself and others before he can get hurt.
No one knows the full extent of what the heaven-touched can do, not even those dragons who have found themselves blessed. If a dragon came to Volonte and asked about their future, he would be able to see only what corresponds with celestial movements. For example, if the unwavering sun causes their farm to fail due to a drought, if they meet their soulmate under the twinkling eyes of the stars, where they will be during the next solar eclipse. Certain heaven-touched dragons (or con men pretending to be so) who make their living from their gift would try to spin the truth of what they see to flatter the asker. But Volonte always tells the full, blunt truth of what he’s seen, even if it's not what the asker wants to hear. Now the only ones who come to beg him to read the heavens for their future are the most dedicated… or the most desperate.
