The entry is written in faded ink, a date scrawled at the top of the page next to a short title that reads “Dark Mirrors”. It is the account of one Madeline Monrose, regarding memories of her grandfather’s tales and the now recently abandoned town of Senth.

I grew up in the Hewn City. I was part of a small family - myself and my brother Ian, our parents, and grandfather. Our family moved to the Sunbeam Ruins from the Snowsquall Tundra before my brother and I were born, but the family traditions and many of the old superstitions from the Southern Icefield came with us. Indeed, my grandfather always told the strangest stories. The majority of our family thought him paranoid in his old age as he would drape all of the mirrors with thick white sheets each night. When we asked him why, he would smile. It was a thin, strained smile burdened with worry. “Let me tell you a story”. He would say as he led my brother and I towards an old rocking chair by the fire.

“Long ago” our grandfather began, “the Southern Icefield was protected by a family of mages who swore their fealty to the Icewarden and vowed to combat the strange forces that attempted to descend from the mountains. Their palace was known as Moondoore, a fortress said to have been created by an elven architect who bestowed the mages with a device capable of moving the palace. For many years, Moondore stood to protect the Icefield. . . until the day that it mysteriously disappeared.

They say that without the palace, those strange forces once held at bay now descended from the mountains. Still, they come at night to those who are not wary. You must hang the sheets to keep them away.” Begrudgingly, my brother and I hung the sheets, obscuring the mirrors each night with thick white cloth.

I forgot about my grandfather’s stories as I grew. He passed a few years after my brother and I moved out of our childhood home and I suppose that the family superstitions died with him. I convinced myself that his tales were nothing more than that - stories meant to frighten children. Besides, even if such creatures existed, we had moved away from the Southern Icefields and there were no rumors of monsters emerging from mirrors in other lands.

I was reminded of my grandfather’s tales when the disappearances began in the town of Senth. They were strange cases of unrelated victims going missing in the night, but the detail that gave me chills were the broken mirrors in each of their homes. Those shards on the ground were blackened as if they were fragments of obsidian and after hearing those rumors, I began covering the my own mirrors at night once more.

I can’t say that I’ve ever seen one of the beasts that emerge from the mirrors, but I spoke to one other survivor who described them as great black dogs that come through the reflective glass, their forms comprised of those dark shards. Those beasts can see through any mirror, perhaps appearing as reflections themselves as they observe their prey. I think it’s best to stay away from mirrors entirely now. After all, I’m the only one left now from Senth who ultimately survived.

We investigated the abandoned town of Senth, located on the outskirts of the Hewn City. The majority of the architecture was still intact due to its relatively recent vacancy. In nearly every building, we were able to recover the remains of shattered mirrors littering the floors. They were unusually dark and cold to the touch. . . not unlike the walls within the palace of Moondoore. I always wondered how much longer those beasts would stay isolated within their castle and it seems now that they've found a way to extend the reaches of their mirror realm.

Just hand him Koi and figure out additional lore when you're not half asleep. Bit Nakir, "bound" by Hel (more like experiments). Maybe swap Nakir and Hel in lore? Munkar watches over him and the two girls.
