Biography

Old Tin Pot
Oyster
He/Him

"Today my sister Bisque won a fashion contest, but I didn't win anything! She isn't even big enough to wear her crown that she won. Besides, I should get the crown because it has pearls on it, and my name is literally Oyster! This is unfair."

Whenever Oyster and his sister Bisque are in the kitchen, there's bound to be a seafood delicacy in the making. This perky spiral prides himself on his top-tier shrimp ravioli and buttery lobster tail that dazzles the taste buds of any dragon in Sornieth.

Made With Love
Written by CupcakeNova

“Stupid Bisque, thinking she’s so smart.”

Oyster was hunched over his desk, his tail coiling and uncoiling around the desk leg in irritation. Behind him, his room looked somewhat like it had been struck by a small tornado, mostly centralized around his closet. Clothes and boxes and trinkets spilled out of it and across the floor in a path of detritus that led straight to the top of Oyster’s desk. The spiral himself was covered in scraps of fabric, thread, and ribbons. A pair of sewing scissors hung from his horn.

“Stupid, she’s the one who used the garlic mincer last. It wasn’t my fault it got rusty, she’s the one who didn’t wash it properly, even when I told her. But did she listen to me? Nooooo.”

As he grumbled to himself, his claws were busy with the project in front of him. Strong, waterproof fabric in a nice warm brown colour was draped across his lap, and he was busy sewing strips of ribbon to the inside of it. Occasionally he would pause and check his stitches, making sure that none of them cut through the protective runes woven into the ribbons.

Oyster ranted and sewed, stitched and huffed, working through the morning in the quiet of his room. By the time his work was finished, his eyes were burning from the strain of staring intently at his needlework, but he felt a sense of fierce satisfaction as he lifted the fabric up to the light, revealing an apron adorned with protective charms hidden in the seams.

“There,” he grunted, “all finished.”

Although he still sounded deeply annoyed and he was glaring at the apron like it had personally offended him, there was a sparkle in his eye that said that he was quite pleased with himself.

Now all he had to do was present it.

“She better appreciate this,” Oyster muttered as he lovingly folded the apron and carefully tucked it under his arm, and then he opened the door to his room so he could start hunting his sister down.

Oyster had been stomping down the stairs, headed towards the kitchen of their restaurant when the smell first hit him. For a moment he actually staggered as the delicious aroma wafted into his nostrils, and his mouth immediately began to water. He picked up the pace, following the scent until he stumbled into the kitchen. And there, just finishing up plating, was Bisque. Her claws and snout were covered in flour, and her sleeves were splattered with sauce, but the picturesque bowl of shrimp ravioli she had set on the counter could have been on the cover of a cookbook. He had never seen a dish so obviously made with love.

She startled a bit when she caught sight of him in the doorway, and for a moment she nervously twisted her apron between her claws before she visibly steeled herself and forced herself to still.

“I, uh. I made you some lunch,” she said haltingly, gesturing towards the bowl. “Dad brought home some fresh Tiger Shrimp, and I know that’s your favourite.”

Oyster grabbed a fork from the clean cutlery bin and scooped up a bit of pasta and shrimp. The second the food hit his tongue, it was like pure bliss. The creamy sauce, the buttery pasta, and the briney shrimp all came together in one delicious harmony. While most would say that his version of the recipe was tastier, he’d respectfully disagree, because this ravioli had been made by someone else, specifically for him, and was made with love and care. It was one of the best things he’d ever tasted.

“Bisque, this is amazing,” he told her honestly, before scooping up another bite.

“Good, I’m glad,” she replied, giving him a weak smile. As he dug into the pasta, she took the opportunity to speak. “Look, Oyster. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean those things I said. I think you’re a great cook, one of the best. I shouldn’t have shouted like that.”

Oyster swallowed the bite in his mouth and put his fork down, turning his full attention on his sister. “No, but I shouldn’t have shouted either. Or called you a dummy. I’m sorry too.”

He pulled the bundle of fabric he’d been carrying out from under his arm, and presented it to Bisque. She took it curiously, unfolding it to reveal the apron.

At first, she just smiled. “Thank you, Oyster, it’s lovely. My old one was getting a bit worn, I guess.”

Oyster just gestured to the back of the apron. “It’s not just another apron,” he told her.

Bisque studied the seams he’d pointed out. When she spotted the ribbons, her eyes went wide, and she looked up at him in astonishment. “Oyster! Did you add these?”

He nodded, a wee bit smug. “Yup. Protective ice charms, so that you won’t get burnt if you get hit with oil splatter. Spent all morning on it.”

“Oyster, that’s amazing! Thank you!” She reached over and tugged him into a hug.

He squeezed her back, giving as good as he got. “I’m glad you’re my sister,” he said quietly into her shoulder.

“I’m glad you’re my brother,” Bisque agreed, just as soft. And then she pulled back, leaving her arms resting on his shoulders, and said, “Tell you what. Dad also brought home some Sunfish, want to see if we can finally make that casserole from mom’s book?”

“Of course!” Oyster agreed brightly.

The two dragons immediately set to work, darting around the kitchen to gather up the supplies they needed, chatting and joking and working together in perfect harmony.
