ROLE: LAIR LEADER
Esme was born as a Fae in the Starfall Isles. Her love for the fantastic arcane theories and spells secured her a spot as one of the scholars studying the ancient documents kept in the Tourmaline Archives. It would also be here where, one day, she found a strange scroll hidden between the documents she was working on: the scroll that gave her the form she still bears nowadays… by accident. One day, she found a strange scroll inside some old books she was then studying. The scroll seemed to awaken a powerful attraction in her, which lead her to taking the decission to isolate herself until she finished decyphering it. After a long month of translation, she finally managed to convert the runes of the decadent old language of the Sunbeam Ruins into the standard Fae dialect. However, the prolongated exposure to the scroll's effects would end up turning her into a Pearlcatcher: her wings grew larger, whiskers grew from her muzzles and her overall size increased. These changes in her physical form would lead to her rejection in the group of scholars. It was unnacceptable that a non-Fae individual were to be in a strictly Fae environment, for they were the only children of the Arcanist. She had to forcefully accept this bitter news, and decided to go explore everything she knew about the world of Sornieth through the arcane texts. She became a wandering merchant and artist, travelling around the different flights, finding out about the different existing breeds and dragon societies. She took advantage of her knowledge and also became a well-known diplomat around the realms. And her pearl, though not existing since birth, grew quickly thanks to all of the experiences she lived during her travels. When she decided it was about time to settle down at last, she returned to her home flight, in hopes of retiring to the Starwood Strand, where she could sustain a lair full of individuals with great intellectual potential. Perhaps, if she ever manages to find the perfect mate... she might even start her own lineage! Some time has passed. During one of her merchant journeys, Esme comes along a shiny scroll batter. It has runes engraved on it and it looks like a very expensive item. "Hm?", crouching to pick it up, "What is that? Another ancient scroll?" She picks up the batter and carefully extracts the sheet of paper from inside. Gives it a brief read and realizes what the object is, remembering the metamorphosis from Fae to Pearlcatcher. "AH! Nonono- no way I'm letting that happen again! I'd better keep this under careful watch so no 'accidents' happen again... heh." She slides the scroll back into its container, and places it in her satchel. Then, she quickly takes flight, heading back to the Lair. Wait... is that light coming from the satchel?

The intellectual lands softly near the Lair, attempting to enter, just to find that the entrace is strangely small all of a sudden. Two of the inhabitants pass by; Otis the Spiral, and Spite the Aberration. They see the scene and approach the dragon, who is struggling to enter the cave. "Hello, you two! Good thing you are here... I could really use some help here. Why did you make the entrace smaller? It was fine just as it was before", she said, while attempting, once again, to fit through the corridor. Both the aberration's heads eyeroll, and one of them nudges angrily at Otis. "Don't you think we should do something about this slight issue, or are you too busy looking at the futures in that shiny ball of yours?" On the other side, Otis just watches the scene, shocked. "It cannot be...", he mumbles under his breath. Spite's patience is quickly running short, and she walks towards the invader. But her inminent attack is stopped by the Spiral's flexible body. "It's not the future that I am seeing. Have a look at this-", he whispers at her, offering her his beloved adivination artifact. Both of Spite's jaws drop to the floor, at the sight of the reflection on the glassy object. "It happened AGAIN?", she mutters, knowing of that-one-incident-nobody-is-allowed-to-talk-about in the Lair. "Yep. Apparently, boss seems to have a clear metamorphosis problem. But chill, you almost got a heart attack in spite of this", he jokes, a snort about to break his composture. The warrior's deathstare is, however, enough to make the fortune-teller remain serious. "Very funny joke. But I do not think we will laugh so much when we -and by that I mean YOU- go tell her, don't ya think?" Otis gulps, and nods at the indirect order from his denmate. "The boss can be really intimidating when she gets angry, but truth be told, that demonic figure can really go one step further than just 'intimidating'..." On the meanwhile, the now former pearlcatcher had made her way into the cave. Little had she noticed, that the cave was not smaller... And as much as she tried to blame it on the past night's feast, or an awful joke she was being played on, she had morphed once again, and by accident, into a new species... "But HOW does this keep happening? I was so careful! I only gave that scroll a small read, and had it in my hands for a couple minutes!" |
