»To Protect {I}

Teach me how to protect those that you love.

A plea, begging for some semblance of hope. Is there any hope left for you, though? Is there any hope at all, anymore? Take a look at yourself, battered and bruised and shattered. Why do you keep trying, for what? Why do you call this revenge? What part of this is revenge? You're just... living.

Teach me how to protect those that you love.

Raucous laughter and clinking claws against dinnerware. Now, look at you. You're so dirty! I didn't pick you up by the side of the road for you to go and get muddy again, now did I? Come here, let's freshen you up again. How many times have you picked yourself up when everything you've known, everything you are has crumbled to ash? How many times have you washed the plates and tended the garden and cried yourself to sleep before you stood up and said 'no more'? Was it worth it? Don't close your eyes. Look at me. You're safe. You're okay.

Teach me how to protect those that you love.

Now you are here, wanderer. What do you desire now? What have you come to seek out, if not shelter or protection? Those very words you uttered, what will you do with them now?

»"I have learned to protect, and so now I will protect. This is what I have learned, and this is what I have chosen."

Now, she's here. A tranquil dragon residing in the library of Arvarium. Ask her, "Was it worth it?", and she'll answer; "Always."

»Memories Long Bygone {II}

A dream. A vast field. She remembers a vast valley of red, roses. The remains of a behemoth, now overtaken by nature. A large, twisting and turning house. She used to stay in the greenhouse on the second floor, she thinks. Her memory is blurred. Not shattered, not like glass. But stained, like swatches of ink and water dripping on paper. Asa remembers red, she remembers sweet honey and fruit, she remembers piping hot tea and faint, lingering incense. Asa remembers warmth. She can't recall what caused it. (Was it something? Or someone?) She could remember the rolling breeze and how freeing it felt, how small the world felt in that moment. She could remember how her claws worked and churned soil. Her muscles could recall what, but her mind could not recall who. Asa did not live alone. She knows she didn't. So why does she not remember? She clawed desperately for such memories back. She mourns memories long bygone, long forgotten. Yet, there is still time to relearn. There always is.

-

There's a rose. No, a bouquet. On a windowsill of a quaint room, curtains dancing with wind. Asa stares at it. Perhaps you could see a twinge of tender reminiscing, in that moment. She thinks of adding a greenhouse sometime in the future.
.
.
Yes, that would be good. Thus, once again, she prunes the roses on the windowsill of her room.
