»Stardust Makes Iron {I}

There is no such thing as stardust in me.

She hides, she steals and fights but she survives. She has had no family; a stray. But did she ever really need one? Did she need company? She never thought of it. The worry if she would survive the next day was more important than the worry of being alone. She was always alone, what would a few more years of being lonely do to her? Only then when she had gave up that lifestyle and began to carve herself a new path in these muddy waters would she encounter herself. No, not herself, but a projection of herself. A frail figure not much younger than herself, innocence and naiveness ripped away, childhood ripped away far too early. Perhaps that was why she began questioning the foundation of those days of youth.

I am of iron.

Yes, she was not made of stardust but iron. Tempered iron. Because she is a blacksmith, she shoves the solid, hard iron of someone's darkest pasts into a forge and blasts it and beats it with a hammer, because if she doesn't shape it now, it'll only turn as solid as it was before, and melding it then would only be impossible. She strikes and blasts it with the care and love a blacksmith born from fire would create with pride so she can create something better. Something more useful, something more beautiful. Something that will not only cut, but protect, rather than something that will only destroy and bring harm to those closest to it. It's what she did with Asa, with Syria, with herself and everyone else. Only then, could she really understand the meaning of the word "pride". She harbors pride for her family. And sometimes, she looks to her younger self sitting near the trunk of the tree and says;

»"I promise I'll be better. I'll be better for you. I can't change your experiences, your scars, your past. But, I'll do everything in my power to be the adult you look up to."
