Tundra Badly Summarizes the Cells of the Immune System Part 7: Regulatory T Cells
Regulatory T Cells, formerly called Suppressor T Cells, are adaptive immune cells. The immune system is an essential part of you, but it can also be very dangerous, as anyone who suffers from allergies or autoimmune disease can attest. That's where these T cells come in. Their job is to, well, regulate. When an infection is over, they work to make immune cells generally less efficient to stop the immune response before it causes too much damage. They also help maintain tolerance to antigens your body uses and therefore help prevent autoimmune disease.
IKTR count: 3
I feel like I should look into these more to learn more about them, they seem quite interesting. sadly I am a chronic procrastinator and suck at research :(
side note but personally I think that "regulator T cell" is a better name. I mean, we got helper T cell and killer T cell, but then we have regulatory T cell. you can't convince me that "regulator T cell" doesn't fit better with the rest
