The Private Eye sits in her dimly lit office. Her coffee is cold and she has not touched it yet. She’s hunched over some documents, a couple of news clippings, and a map of the town. You are almost too afraid to disturb her. Not wanting to startle her, you clear your throat softly. She looks up at you, pushes her fedora back a little. “Ah, you’re here to interview me, aren’t you?” You ask her how she knows that. She looks you over, studying your body language perhaps. “I’ve got ears and eyes everywhere, curious one. They have told me that you would wander into this place sooner or later. So, I was expecting you.” That sounds reasonable enough, she is a detective after all. You ask her if now is a good time for her to answer some questions. “Now is as good of a time as any.”, she replies casually. She paws her coffee, takes a swig, and grimaces at the lukewarm, bitter taste of it. You, ever the helpful one, offer to make her new coffee before the interview. She gratefully agrees.

One new, hot cup of coffee later, Tigereye is ready for her interview. You start off by asking her what inspired her to become a detective. “Well, I’ve always had a knack for solving mysteries.”, she replies, looking into her already empty cup of coffee. This time, she did drink it before it cooled down. Then one day, a citizen came to ask me for help regarding a stolen object. They didn’t want law enforcement to get involved, so I helped them out.” You think about that for a moment, before voicing your concerns over dragons not wanting to involve law enforcement. The detective just shrugs. “I don’t ask any questions. My clients actually like that, and I get a lot of regulars here.” Well, you suppose it couldn’t hurt… Still, it doesn’t sit quite right with you. You ask about those that commit heinous crimes. “Of course I will report things such as deaths to the guards.”, Tigereye reassures you. “But there are a lot of smaller crimes or weirder mysteries that would otherwise clog up the guards’ schedule so I pick them up.” You agree that there aren’t enough guards for every small offense, and ask Tigereye if she thinks that this is something she is worried about. “I’m not sure, for now we seem to manage nicely.”, she replies. She sounds calm, but you can sense a bit of distrust in the shifting of her body and you decide to drop the subject.

To get back on Tigereye’s good side, you instead ask about the case she has been working on before the interview. Immediately, she seems to relax and her eyes light up a little. “Well, this one is quite curious actually.”, she tells you. “This child’s plush toy keeps disappearing and then popping up in random places all around town.” She shows you a picture of a plush toy that crudely resembles a Skycat. “The parents believe the bloody thing is cursed, but I’m pretty sure it’s just a prank that has been going on for too long.” You think about it, than tell the detective that it could be either of them, but that you agree that it’s likely a prank. She perks up at that. “That’s interesting, why do you think it’s not magic doing this?”, she asks you, with genuine curiosity in her voice. You state, with much confidence, that you believe curses to be way more malicious than just a moving toy, and that an actual cursed toy would do things way worse than that. She nods through all of it, eating it all up. You have no magical abilities whatsoever, but anything to please the dragon you’re interviewing, right? “Thanks for that insight.”, Tigereye says, with a smile. “It’s always interesting to hear what outsiders think, a new angle can change everything.”

You spend some more time with Tigereye, discussing all kinds of strange cases she has had and dragons she has worked with. The detective is quite pleasant when you get to know her. A bit blunt perhaps, but nothing you can’t handle. At the end of the night, in the early hours of morning, you say your goodbyes. And promise to return again soon for another pleasant conversation.
