Research on orcaosite

Orcarosite is highly reactive to magic, and was formed during extreme arcane vortices at the end of the Second Age. Then, years into Bounty of the Elements, strands of Wandering Contagion crept in and corrupted the land’s magic energies. The small zone around the mine where the ground was breached, and orcarosite unearthed, became a bubble of unique energies. This bubble remained isolated, branding everything within with unordinary power. But as the Contagion spread, slowly eating all in its path, this lonely area began opening up, and Plague started growing into the orcarosite’s core.

I had our team of chemists review our findings on this silica and the results were ground breaking!
The collision of the Plague element with an arcane-charged orcarosite, caused its atoms to accept more energy than they could store, causing them to become unstable - a process also known as radioactive decay. The gemstone began emitting high speed particles, capable of breaking chemical bonds. This combined with the unpredictable nature of arcane magic, resulted in familiar mutations we see in Starfall Isles. >>>>>>>>>>

However, we just found out that the ionising radiation in orcarosite creates new enzymes in living organisms, creating a wide range of chemical reactions. The most common one being flavonoid synthesis, reaction responsible for the iconic pink pigmentation of both locally found flora and fauna. Another observed process is conversion of dead cells into fluids and gases used for accelerated formation of orcarosite crystals within organs of higher organisms. This process is responsible for the typical orcarosite illness, and the growths were originally mistaken for tumors.

What this means, when put more lightly, is that orcarosite infliction is a form of rot. This gemstone radiates energies that damage cells that are in the process of dividing, and then change them, strengthen them, if you will. It diffuses into the weak, festers within and grows, changing its host from the inside out. Orcarosite is a plague. A blessing from Mother. Sometimes I wonder if we were ever even supposed to lay our claws on it. But Plague will seize any given opportunity, and so it shall be.
