Sometimes, when night falls, and when there is nothing but silence to keep him company, and the dreams don't let him rest, Pine likes to reminisce the past. Letting his eyes fall shut, he remembers his days in the tower, trapped like a bird in a cage. All alone, with nothing to look forward to, nothing to live for.

And, then, they found him. They found him, already so broken and scarred, and made him theirs. They freed him of the chains that had bound him his entire life, and showed him the world. They were always there for him, always protecting him, always guiding him. ~~And then, they weren't.~~

Pine still remembers that day. Remembers the fierce battle and the villager's screams of terror. Remembers healing everyone again and again, so they could win the battle. He remembers the cheers when they finally won. He remembers hugging, and being hugged back, all of them so very tightly. He also remembers how everyone suddenly fell limp in his hold. Remembers the blood that soon stained his hands after that, the very first time he killed. But, he didn't care because everyone was gone, and he was left alone. Why not kill him too? Whywhywhywhy-

He does not remember what happened after that. He does. He remembers the rage he felt, at the utter unfairness of the world. At how they, so bright, so wonderful, died, and the world just moved on, like nothing was wrong. Because, how dare it? He remembers the screams, and the guiltless blood he spilled so mercilessly, and the tears that rolled down his cheeks. He remembers losing himself in the rage, going against everything they had stood for.

He only remembers meeting 'her', and her whispered words. Words so foolish and outlandish, that only young hatchlings would believe in. And yet, his heart whispers, What if? And so, he takes her hand, and becomes one of hers. Fairytales were never Pine's favorite, but just this once, he wishes for his own happy ever after.
