Brin

"Brin can you come here for a second?" Damascus beckoned the smaller dragon towards him as he exited the lake, shaking off the water. Below him, Brin flinched, droplets of water hitting him.

"What is it?" Brin growled while holding his book closer to him.

"Don't get snappy with me friend!" Leaning down now, Damascus had curled himself into an added shape; cooing at Brin as he did this and watching as he seemed to relax, "How have you been?"

Brin sighed, "Good enough I suppose-" he shifted into a laying position that mimicked him, "I have been quite lonely, I will admit running these studies for you is tiresome."

"I apologize, you know I can't leave the grove."

"Yes but you expect me to run duties you should be performing yourself-"

Damascus huffed, cutting him off, "It is a clan duty there is no reason I cannot ask for your help."

"I'm a dragon too you know!" Brin cried before quickly settling down. A few startled heads from passing dragons whipped around to stare at them, Brin knew that none would intervene because of Damascus' status; which was certainly higher than Brin's status. "I have a life outside of running your council duties."

"You should go get some rest," Damascus stood and patted Brin on the head before speaking again, "we can speak again once you have relaxed my friend." Without another word he turned and took off, leaving Brin to lay there alone. Dragons all around seemed to have witnessed the altercation, they all huddled in small groups or flashed quick glances, they would probably tell their friends and family once they arrived at their dens. Damascus was once such a great and noble beast, what happened to him? Still, he was a star in the eyes of his comrades but it was clear to Brin he was faltering compared to when he first joined the council. Quickly he scurried off to his own den, preparing once again to look over documents. What Brin didn't know was that these documents were going to change his life forever.
