I love and miss you, with no poetic metaphor behind it, just simple sadness and strong adoration. Every now and then I think about you, about us, what we missed when we lost you and it feels like someone has ripped a bandaid off of a cut. Fresh pain and longing, loneliness and melancholy fill me to the brim. Sometimes I suffocate on it, drown in it.
I wish things were different. I wish we could be brothers like we were supposed to.
It pains me to know I have only one strong memory of you. That every other one has blurred and faded in time. I feel like a traitor to not remember things with you.
That one precious memory means everything to me. I'll hold onto it as long as I live.
I don't know what you would have done with your life, little brother, but I know it would have been extraordinary.
So I'm going to try and live an extraordinary life for us both.
I love you, Dakota.
