 Bruce was born in an ancient lair on the steps of the Forum of the Obscured Crescent. His parents were Paxton the Obelisk of the Arcane flight, and Shay the Coatl of the Nature flight. Paxton has the reputation of being a bit of a goofball, as does Shay, although she has a darker side that a few have seen. Bruce in comparison is a rather quiet and serious Obelisk who is in training as a mage at the Astrolodome.

He can sometimes be found in the company of the notorious "Mad Mage", Mordred, although they are from different clans, and have very different opinions on the study of magic. It may be a classic case of opposites attracting, or perhaps Bruce hopes to be able to keep a closer eye on his eccentric friend. He also spends a lot of time with Sabrina, who is actually his father's half-sister.
