LNo. No. This couldn’t be possible. This had to be a cruel joke. It had to be. An Imperial, she had given birth to an Imperial. An Imperial that looked just like Konungur. While Holden had stolen away the eggs, this…abomination had hatched prematurely. She looked at it, as it coughed and sputtered on amniotic fluid and albumen. It wheezed and wobbled on uneven legs. It was suffering.

Of course it was suffering. Pearlcatchers and Imperials were never meant to breed. Their offspring would always be sickly. Always. She was horrible. She was suffering. She needed to die. For the good of the kingdom, she needed to die. It wasn’t fear, or hatred, it was mercy! Yes, mercy! Holden was being merciful.
A merciful snap of the neck. A merciful mother with eyes full of tears.

It would have been, if Desasemelhada hadn’t ruined everything. Desasemelhada, the great white wolf who had tried to civilize herself on the backs of broken-minded fools. She came to ruin everything. She planted the baleful seeds of revolution in this town, how disgusting. When she saw the young, broken imperial, her hardened lupine heart began to soften. This creature reminded her of herself when she was a pup. She was once a mewling cur, trembling in fear of the dark. Now, she was a great, looming black dog, but she still felt vulnerable. She saw the way she looked at her, with a mixture of fear and adoration. It was something she had never felt before.

Desasemelhada scooped up the corpse, and hurried deep underground. She knew how easy it was for Imperials to be raised from the dead, but how could she preserve the child's mind from the metal horror of Emperor-dom?

The Kitsune. Yes, the Kitsune. Those slimy fox-blooded dragons were good for nothing, and one of them had tried to murderer the Barghest, but she got to him first. She began to sew the corpses together, using the inherit non-Sorniethian to keep her from the tainted, gaslit insanity of the Light Goddess. After hours of toiling, biting, and stitching, the creature–the princess, was perfect.
Vykidyshvulps was her name, and she was the most perfect creation of Desasemelhada. More than that, she was her daughter.
