Zelgius

A coatl with exceptional linguistic ability is a rare and valuable dragon. Where most of his breed struggle with the articulation required for the traditional draconic language, Zelgius seemed to possess a natural gift. Immediately recognizing his talent, his clan pushed him into an elite school for mages, scholars, poets and alchemists. He continually surprised dragons at the school with his intelligence and vocabulary. His instructors and clan heaped praise upon him, which in turn inflated his ego. Zelgius looked for every opportunity to flaunt his gift, earning him the resentment of his peers. Being ostracized by his fellow students only fed more into Zelgius' self-esteem. He believed that their jealousy was what separated them from him; such uneducated wyrms were not worthy of his attention.

Zelgius returned to his clan a proud, if not pretentious, coatl. He served as an interpreter for the coatls in the area, helping them with business transactions. Zelgius served his clan happily, unaware of the growing conflict within. While Zelgius was an invaluable translator, he demanded that things were done his way or not at all. He always pushed for his own ideas, often rejecting any others and publically insulting whoever proposed the idea. Zelgius would roll his eyes and sigh whenever one of his kin began to propose a new idea for the clan; at the same time, he would fly into a rage if we wasn't consulted before the clans next big expansion.

Following a particularly hostile outburst, the clan leaders finally put their feet down. They gave Zelgius an ultimatum: either accept his clanmates as equals and treat them as such, or leave. Zelgius chose the latter. After packing his things, he left the next night without a word. He wandered from realm to realm, doing small translation work for traveling merchants. Occasionally he would stay at a lair, only to grow tired of the owner's obvious idiocy and incompetence. Never staying in one place for more than a few days, his nomadic life came to a stop when he met Priscilla.

He met her while staying at a ridgeback's multi-species lair in the Plaguelands. He had stopped at the lair to discuss business with a coatl merchant and was encouraged to stay for dinner. Zelgius had never seen a coatl so beautiful. As he stared into her eyes from across the table, he felt, for the first time in his life, inadequate. He was terrified of this feeling. He barely slept that night. How could one dragon make him feel so vulnerable? After all, he was one of a kind, one of the most handsome and talented dragons of the Starfall Isles! At that point, he knew he had to speak with her.

The next day, he encountered her again as she was flying lazily outside. Joining her in the sky, they made small talk that led into a lengthy conversation about himself. Zelgius was happy to talk about his accomplishments, and Priscilla was content to idly listen to him. By the time he was finished. she was nodding nonchalantly at his words. Zelgius beamed at her, and so began a long relationship between the two. His new clan still don't know why Priscilla ever received him, but no one is foolish enough to question their bond to Zelgius' face.
