Spat out by the ground, you lie splayed out, sputtering and coughing dirt out of your lungs. As you regain control of your breathing and your vision stops spinning, you sit yourself upright and take in your new surroundings. Still outside, apparently, though you really aren't sure when you left the crystal labyrinth. Tall crops surround you, the dusty air is stagnant and warm. The cloud cover is lighter here, a few distinct clouds hover in the golden sky around the setting sun. Is it setting? Or is it rising? You have no way of knowing, no sense of time or direction given how disorienting everything is. No, it must be setting. The buzz of insects and the distinct reddish hues of the sky seem to tell you that it's dusk.
A rustling comes from behind you, quickly growing louder. Your instincts scream at you to turn around and look, to get up and run, but you can't bring yourself to move. A large shadow passes over you. You remain frozen, unable to look up at what flew overhead.
"Hello!" You feel the weight of the impact as an orange Imperial lands in front of you. "What brings you to this neck of the woods?" There's a playfulness to her tone, if you can call it that, though you can't quite decide whether it's genuine or if there's something hidden behind it. "It's alright, you can rest here. Stay as long as you'd like." You jump in your skin, tensing with fright. Something about the way she said that unsettles you. No longer in the field, a warm, cozy room encloses you.
You are still unable to move, only able to look around at the new sights. Rustic, handcrafted tables and shelves, cupboards and chairs fill the room. The cushions and cloths that cover them are a rich red, the occasion gingham pattern thrown in as an accent here and there. Every corner of this place is filled with trinkets and treats, little toys and knickknacks and candies and pastries of all kinds line the shelves and litter every surface.
"I can never help myself, I just love finding new things! New tastes to enjoy, new bobbles to play with... I can't get enough of them." There's a sincerity to her words, but they fail to put your mind at ease. She speaks so quickly and comfortably, as if she's known you forever. "And I didn't even have to leave to find you! You just fell right into my lap, isn't that amazing? It's like it was meant to be!" Her eyes snap to meet yours, cold and blank. Ice fills your veins and you struggle, trying to look away, to get up and run, anything. No. Something holds you down, paralyzing you. Staring for what seems like an eternity, the pale voids of her eyes seem to grow, consuming everything around them until there's only her. The icy vastness eclipses everything. As if something snapped, your limbs work. Frantically catching up with you, they flail as you slip.
Falling.
Down.
