Lost dragons looked to the light as a guide. A simple fact that even the smallest hatchling would know. What they did not know was that the light needed the lost just as the lost looked to it.

Much like Guardian dragons, Lanterna needed a purpose to truly exist. Unlike the Guardians, though, their "Charge" was determined the day they were born.

"Guide the lost."

And they did, each and everyone with the ability to do so. However, there are rumors of ways that guiding the wrong dragon could lead one astray, leave one lost.

But Hydra knew those were only rumors, right?

. . .

The nights were always darkest in the Scarred Wastelands. Thick clouds covered the sky and no stars that weren't on the Obelisk's beating wings could be seen. She always disliked guiding dragons in this place, most of them weren't quick to accept help, but it was her duty.

The lost one wasn't hard to find. A Coatl, looking this way and that, far from any hints of civilization. When she got closer and he noticed her, she nearly froze.

He had fire in his eyes and stars painted across him, but the thing that most unnerved her was the way he was looking at her. One thing that Hydra had learned was that everyone could tell when someone was lost, and the Coatl was not lost, he was proud.

"So you are real, then," he said, a smile threatening to make its way across his face. "My name is Orion, and I've waited a long time to see something like you."

"Orion," she said. One one hand, she should've been furious that she'd been dragged out on a night like this for a cocky idiot wanting answers. But on the other hand, Orion really hadn't done anything bad, and it would be fun to entertain him for a bit. "I'm Hydra. Let's get somewhere that isn't the middle of nowhere, first, shall we?"
