Penumbra

Penumbra scoffed, tossing an old tome aside. It's pages didn't contain the answer she was looking for, but what annoyed her the most was that she was still hopeful to find it nonetheless.

The task her mother, Pythia, had given her weighed heavy on her wings; find something--anything--that could abate the destruction of their homeland. Luminax was ever rampaging, and alongside her Sentinels Pythia was doing her best to fight it. She was desperate to find something to help her.

Penumbra's current base of operations was located on the outskirts of the Moonportal in the farmost reaches of the Sunbeam Ruins. It was out of the Emperor's reach but much closer to a different threat--the Hewn City. But this ancient place was her specialty, and she often went there searching for, well...anything. Most of what she had found, however, were angered spirits and esoteric tomes of little use to her.

"You'll go blind before you find anything worth using in these books," a strange voice spoke. "But please be gentle with them, they're valuable for other purposes."

"Ah, Vesper. How goes it? I expected you to be gone already."

The spiral looked at Penumbra and shook her head. "Not yet, I'm still waiting for Oloros to return. You know how he is, takes his scouting seriously."

Penumbra was not alone in her search. Like her mother, she had her own Sentinels, and together they all searched for power they could use. And although the risk of getting caught by Shadow guards was high, the Moonportal served as their gate to the rest of Sornieth. Oloros, the mysterious dragon Vesper had mentioned, was always extra careful. He made sure the way was clear before anyone else used the portal.

"It's good that she does. Getting captured by the Shadowbinder's most devoted would not end well. We simply don't have the time or resources to play at diplomacy," Penumbra sighed.

"Not to worry," Vesper chimed. "Our spoils grow larger with each trip! We could most likely pay off a guard or two if we must."

"Still not ideal," Penumbra retorted. She picked up the book she had tossed aside earlier and handed it to Vesper. "Our efforts are much better used for other things."

As the Spiral fluttered away with the tome, Penumbra's thoughts turned dour as they so often did. Was this just a fool's errand? Or was there something really out there for them to find?



Penumbra is the leader of a close-knit group of dragons that serve as the clan's hunter-gatherers. They are currently searching for a way to help hinder the devastation in the Emperor's Wake, where the clan leader is currently posted alongside her chosen few. The main clan is nestled away from most of the havoc, although these days they worry it grows ever closer to them.
