Biography

Yuko
Smart and level-headed
Quirk1.png

Yuko is cool level headed dragon with patience and tack in battle.

Yuko huffed up the stairs. It was said that the ghosts of the dead haunted the tower, but now was no time for ghost stories.

The clan was under attack. Of course, it could be some pranksters ringing the bell and setting off the alarms, but unlikely.

A nearby tundra sniffed at the air. “Beastclans.”

Yuko started to panic. The wall he stood in-front of was breaking. Yuko readied his talons, it was now or never.

Crack.

The door broke, and arrows flitted past him, and spears just missed his face. It would be rather hard.

Coatls weren’t built for fighting. Banescales fought for their lives, against the Icewarden’s first children.

If only Rinka was here. But he wasn’t, he was cooking something in the clan kitchen.

“Yuko, catch!” That voice sounded familiar.

Rinka was there!

A few hours later, they were having soup in the dining room.

When they left the dining room, Yuko looked back. A bottle of saffron was left on one of the chairs. He chuckled.

For the longest time, the only one that Yuko had by his side was Rinka.

From his earliest memories, it had just been the two of them from the beginning. Their parents were missing — Yuko had been too young to remember them back when they were still around, and despite Rinka telling him that they had volunteered for an important mission, one that would’ve changed their lives for the better, he couldn’t help but blame them. For leaving him and Rinka alone, for trusting so wholly in their neighbour, for not being there for them.

Then again, it wasn’t as if anyone could’ve predicted a riot breaking out in their tiny, peaceful town.

Yuko wasn’t privy to the darker details of it, nor did he know what happened after; Rinka had scooped him up and fled the town with whatever they could pack in the short amount of time between them overhearing their neighbour’s plans for them and the moment they were going to be implemented in the plans.

Two hatchlings out by themselves in the wild was dangerous. Perhaps, if they had made a single mistake, either or both of them would’ve been dead. Still, Rinka had always been strong even when he was young, and for his brother’s sake, Yuko grew to be smart.

Under Rinka’s care and his amazing cooking — learnt from experience and desperation — Yuko flourished. Eventually, as they grew older and started travelling more to get money by doing odd jobs, they took up certain roles; Rinka was the brawns, and Yuko was the brains. The two worked like a well-oiled machine, their instincts already used to each other.

Rinka spoiled him, too. About half of his own share of money was used to buy him books for his birthday and whenever he did something worth spending a little extra money for. Despite Yuko’s attempts at getting him to stop — he should stop wasting his money so easily for him, damnit! — Rinka always insisted on it, claiming that any money spent on him was well-spent. Yuko never really broke him out of that habit.

As a result, Yuko grew protective of him, and became more willing to follow along his lead, like a soldier following a commander’s orders. After all that Rinka had done for him, after all that he had sacrificed for him… it was only right for him to lessen his burden by being obedient, and not making much trouble.

Perhaps that was why it didn’t take much convincing for him to join his brother in their clan. Perhaps that was the key that allowed him to be more open to the clan members’ attempts at befriending them.

Whatever the case, no matter what Yuko might have huffed and criticised years ago, he and his brother were content to remain here and become a part of this clan. Yuko was still a little hesitant, but seeing how happy Rinka was, realising how well they seemed to mesh with the other members, realising how they seemed like they [ i]belonged[/i]…

Well, maybe Yuko could fully let down his guard. Maybe he could accept this place as home.

“I’m back,” Yuko called out, propping his weapon on the rack as he walked in, smelling the sweet scent of dinner. “What’s for dinner?”

“Some stew and braised pork,” Rinka responded, walking out with a smile as he set their dinner on the table. “Welcome back. Did anything interesting happen out there?”

Yuko shrugged. “Nothing much. Just building extra defences and hunting.”

Rinka hummed in response. “Well, you must be tired. Eat up!”

As they ate, Rinka chattered about his day. He had recently started his own restaurant, and with the recent influx of travellers passing by and the clan members visiting to order, there were plenty of stories to tell. In contrast, Yuko’s days were rather boring; not that he minded, since ‘not boring’ tended to be sudden attacks or an incident, neither of which he wanted to deal with.

“You should hang out with your squad mates more,” Rinka told him. “It’d be better for you to make friends.”

Yuko nodded. “I know.” he was starting to join in on the conversations that they had, and while he couldn’t exactly be sure, he thought that they were being pretty friendly with him now. “I am.”

“That’s good, then,” Rinka murmured. “I don’t want you to get lonely when I’m not around.”

Yuko smothered a laugh. “I’m never lonely. Besides, I can always visit the library if I’m free and you’re not.”

Speaking of the library, he recalled that the librarian had mentioned some new books coming in soon. Maybe he could take a look when he was on his break…

“Hey, I’m just concerned,” Rinka playfully complained, gathering all the dishes on the table when they were done. “Can’t an older brother worry for his cute and adorable-”

“[ i]Stop[/i]!” Yuko groaned, pushing him. “Just go wash them! I’m gonna go take a shower.”

Rinka snickered, before his lips curved into something fonder.

“I’m glad you’re settling in well, Yuko,” Rinka said. Yuko smiled back.

“I’m glad too,” he uttered, and meant it.
