Huntress of the Autumn Court


Maple left for her new home in the mundane world with strict instructions from her mother to defeat her cousin Apple at all costs. Aurelia didn't specify what Maple should do to win victory. "Just... be better than her," Aurelia said when Maple asked.

But Maple found Apple securely ensconced in a luxurious home, surrounded by admiring suitors, and nothing but sweet and gracious to her little cousin. Maple was no fool, and knew that fairy kindness had two edges. Apple's hospitality and friendliness were a message - open hostility and competition would get her nowhere. A declaration of war would only make her the villain in the eyes of Apple's circle.

And setting herself up as a rival to her cousin was folly. She was no beauty, no rival to Apple on those grounds, and she had no interest in attempting to challenge her as a hostess, or to humiliate herself trying to acquire a near-harem of suitors. And never mind what her mother wanted - what SHE wanted was something for herself.

She became a hunter, like her grandfather, hunting for the sheer joy of it. Does it matter if her markings are ugly, if there are whispers in her cousin's parlor that fall silent when she enters? She could put an arrow through any of their throats and they know it. She doesn't need beauty.

An avid and bloodthirsty huntress, Maple has little use for the luxuries and vanities of her cousin Apple. She professes not to care about beauty or her own lack of it, but when she met her mate, Adan, she was touched to learn that he could see beauty in her with at least a few of those eyes. She's sworn herself to him and only him, and any living creature who seeks to harm him - or get too familiar with him - will have hell to pay.
