Zoya is a Banescale hatchling who's egg was among the hundreds that were liberated from their icy prison within the ancient lair by the recently amplified magic. Unlike most of the others, she didn't hatch immediately, her egg coming to rest within some rocks not far from where it had emerged from underground. By some odd twist of fate, it would be eventually found by Skuld, a wandering Gaoler, and hatch while between her two front paws.

Skuld, aware of the tragedy that had happened centuries before caused by her own kind, took her in without hesitation, vowing to protect the Banescale with her life.
