Mercury

Mercury, above all else is a scholar. He is curious about most things, and can find a bit of fascination in everything. He is determined to be gentle with the things he studies and with the people he surrounds himself with, that having been the one great downfall of the Arcanist. For the most part, Mercury is quiet, silently observing the world around him and making notes, but get him speaking on something he takes serious interest in, and you're dealing with an entirely different dragon, one who could talk for hours on end if given the chance.

Mercury hails first from the Starfall Isles. The Imperial set out to study the world beyond his home. On the way he picked up a tag-along. He heard her crunching on bugs first. Then he saw her crouching beneath the bushes, watching him warily: a lost little guardian hatchling trailing after him and keeping out of sight (or where she must have thought she was out of sight), too frightened to come out. He had no idea where or when he'd picked her up, or if she even had anywhere to go back to. Unsure of what to do, he let her follow him.

Mercury traveled for several weeks with his tag-along. She never came out, but he kept her warm and fed all the same. He left her small fires for markers as he went to hunt, and he left her food when he'd finished, “curling up to sleep” so she'd feel safe enough to come out and steal some.

Finally he found what he was looking for. What better way to learn about the world than through the eyes of a new clan? Mulligan, their leader, was quick to accept him, and here he stays, watching as the clan learns and grows, studying the interactions between members and his own place within the the clan.

Dutiful scholar though he is, Mercury has one weakness: hatchlings. Watching them frolic about the den is something he finds heartwarming and absolutely fascinating.

He's also taken a liking to Daybreak, who seems to enjoy games and play even as a full grown adult. Sort of charming, really. And goodness does she keep him on his toes! If he doesn't keep track of her he's bound to find a page of notes missing, if she hasn't taken the whole book with her. Now, the two of them have their own hatchling to look after. Two, in fact. Apparently his mate took to mothering very strongly, and while he was surprised as anything when she came home with a mirror hatchling and not the fungus he asked for, he loves the little Foxglove as wholly as his mate.
