Khrysos
Khrysos was a tundra born with an unusual problem - he was allergic to tundra fluff. Being a tundra himself, that meant he was allergic to his parents and siblings and friends, and he spent most of his youth sniffling and sneezing and with watery eyes.
By adulthood, he could take it no more. He left his birth clan and traveled to a clan where no tundras could be found - namely, Kaith's clan. Unfortunately, the sneezing and sniffling continued. Not only was he allergic to other tundras, it turned out he was allergic to himself! He tried shaving himself down; it was a relief from the desert heat, but he also looked utterly ridiculous, and he wouldn't stand for that.
In desperation, he changed his form to that of a pearlcatcher. Finally, he was free of the accursed allergy! He now lives sniffle-free with his mate, Khryseis, in a highly-decorated lair filled with all sorts of shimmering treasures to complement their own sparkling scales.
The core of his pearl was formed by ingesting his shaved-off tundra fur, and regurgitating the resultant pearl.
