Juki
Well-loved Balloon Mascot ~ ~ ~ ~ If it's time for him to leave your lair, - sending him back to Aeranautics via the Crossroads, - posting him in the traveling dragon thread, or - giving him to the rest hub is much preferred to exalting. He's yours to do with as you please, though. Tell Aeranautics if you love this dragon enough to keep him forever. :D

The owner of a craft shop, who named this Imperial-shaped balloon after a brand of sewing machine, tied Juki on a long string so curious passersby would notice and stop by the shop. Business was steady, though Juki's days were not: whipped by winds, he crashed into the shopfront more than once. The shop owner mended his punctures with little patches and insisted that they gave him character. Years of love and care caused the balloon mascot to come to life. Juki, now conscious, enjoyed looking over the land as he floated, though he wished he could travel. After years of advertising, Juki was put into storage, until someone new tied him to the top of a colorful bus. Juki enjoyed new life as a bus mascot. Finally, he could see the world! ...Until the bus had a breakdown at a transit station. Realizing he could move about on his own, Juki slipped his bonds and floated away, ready to taste more life experiences and have even more adventures! |

Juki floated east until he got caught in the trees of the Sunbeam Lanternhouse's Meadow, where his attempts to free himself attracted the attention of Ehecatl. The Guardian helped extricate him, but Juki still ended up with a few new gashes. As a kite maker, Ehecatl was familiar with the materials that Juki was made out of, but he felt that size of his wounds were beyond his ability to mend; he took him to see Rio. The grandmotherly Gaoler cheerfully patched him up, all the while chatting about her latest projects.
He was most intrigued to learn about the Stock the Pond project and paired up with Zuri to contribute. But it was a laborious process, making new balloons, and their attempts were amateurish and, well, not exactly pretty. Though they'd learned a lot, they mutually decided to abandon the project and part ways. |
After flying around for a while, Juki flew over an open plain in the Tangled Wood and decided to stop by to rest and then continue his journey. But his rest was interrupted by two dragonets running not so far away, and then stopping and staring at him. The smaller one said hello, shyly, paused, and ran away, closely followed by the other. A few moments later they came back, a bit closer to the balloon dragon this time, and offered for him to visit their town, looking at each other and smiling before looking back at him.
He agreed to go and spend a night or two there to get some rest and maybe explore a bit! The children bounded and hopped ahead of him, excited to show their parents what a cool dragon they found!
Juki arrived into the town, admiring the lanterns, fountains, and nice little houses made of dark wood. Some older residents of the town showed him around and made him feel welcome and more at home, leading him through the square, the playground, and the shop street, before reaching the house he was going to stay at. It was busiest at night, which was a change of pace, and took some getting used to, but it was something interesting and new!
After a few days of getting his rest, meeting new dragons, and exploring this little town, he decided to get going, promising to come back someday.
In saying goodbye to their brother Shiver, a traveling dragon, Meadow and Shade noticed something flying over their heads. Meadow acted first, flying toward the pretty colors like a moth to light and grabbing them before they blew away.
"Look what I found!" Meadow called to her brother, who had followed her when she took off suddenly.
Shade poked Juki's shoulder and jumped when he moved. "They're alive!"
Meadow jumped back in alarm and huddled beside her brother as they both leaned forward to sniff the other dragon. Juki introduced himself, and then covered a gaping hole in his chest with embarrassment.
"I don't know anything about stitching up balloons, but I'll give it my best shot," Meadow vowed. Together, the three dragons worked on making Juki look whole again, but they used too much fabric and too much soul, and four smaller dragon balloons wandered out from the result of their efforts. The four babies floated away to find their own destinies. The first child, Whipstitch was attracted to a festival in a kingdom locked in a strange game. PollyEster hung around in the visitor's den, looking for love. Quilt wandered far from home, and her fate is yet uncertain. As for Singer, she followed the path of her father and decided to go wherever the wind takes her.

Juki's next great adventure took him to the Wayward Cross, where he decided he'd teach some other dragons to sew. It looked like a great opportunity to meet new dragons, after all.
"Call me, I'm Unapologetic," said one of the pretty dragons in his first sewing lecture.
"Oh, are you interested in sewing?" he asked.
"You could say I'm interested in stitching my fate up with others. So...yes."
Juki kept her number, but then he forgot about her, and he was very sorry about it. Which was ironic.
For Jarett, who wants to see what happens with Juki and Vale.
Juki had been chilling in the back of the den, teaching his sewing class to some of his new clanmates after he'd retired from traveling. But days had become routine and boring and he was beginning to feel as if he were just going through the motions. His good friend Meadow, a regular in his classes, suggested he open his class to dragons outside the clan.
Vale from Faer Town was the first to sign up for a private lesson.
A week passed and they made three little dolls, each goofy and perfect in their own way. The first had beautiful, big pastel eyes. Vale wondered if he'd made the eyes too big, but Juki assured her that he hadn't done anything wrong and insisted the hatchling looked cuter that way. At the second, Juki whistled in approval. "Where did you find that cloth? The wings are exquisite!" he marveled, gesturing to the pretty star-touched fabric. Vale just smiled, revealing nothing. When Juki passed the third, he stopped and looked them in the eye. "You look familiar!" But no matter how much he circled the third hatchling, he just couldn't put his claw on why they look familiar. "Oh well. I'm sure it'll come to me someday."
