Maals was finally home. They were reunited at last - he and his beloved caring family: those he longed to see, those he trusted, those he was willing to protect. He had the skills - well-trained warrior, with remarkable strength and agility and outright sense of duty. It was needed - danger was almost palpable. His clan was hiding among the trees of the Starwood Strand under protection of its thick mist - this clan of Pearlcatchers could practically dissolve in it for short periods of time if needed, as outside world was full of strangers. They let occasional wanderers and gatherers pass through, as sudden murder or abduction would raise suspicion and draw unneeded attention to the area, but one dragon was coming here more often than twice or thrice, and what's worse, he was searching for Maals. Maals felt like the scent of this trespasser was somewhat familiar, but this idea seemed irrational - his family and all the loved ones were here with him, after all. He headed off with clear intention to end this intruder's life, but facing him he could only drive him away, giving him a warning and threatening him. The pitiful gaze he was met with made him lower his own eyes. Maals suddenly experienced an urge to run away - upon seeing this alien dragon he got a weird feeling of being dirty, which almost made him swear loudly and suppress burning tears. As if he forgot how to be clean again, he frantically tried to get rid of this feeling by shaking himself off, but it still remained. And it only got worse after the stranger promised to not look for him anymore. 'I would step away for now. Take care, if you still can, and don't forget about me.' Oh, he wont. The itching intensified. Maals wanted to shed these scales which now felt even dirtier. He couldn't endure this anymore. His mind was racing - what did he forget? What else was there to remember? With a sheer horror, he realized that he can't even recall how his parents looked like. Did he even have parents? He always remembered hearing that he was long awaited, that he came right when he was needed. Came from where? And who... told him that? |
