Mercury is a computer program originally built to calculate drift angles for a racing simulator video game. When her home system was infected by a virus, she defied her original programming to escape. She found herself in the computers for the Storm's Eye Missile Detection system and was flagged as malware herself. But a caring programmer, Alan, took her under his wing; he had a son who loved to build video games, and could recognize code built for his son's favorite game engine anywhere.

Alan equipped Mercury with subroutines to defend her current system from viruses, and she's currently put to use there as a security program. But show her a lightcycle, and she'll always remember her original programming as a racer.
