you've heard tell of a cemetery that takes rent upon the graves. of a cemetery that makes the mourning pay each year, lest their beloved's corpse be dug up and let to rot in catacombs. you think it's a wretched practice, an awful thing.

you loathe that your path home takes you past the graveyard each day.

you loathe that, each day, you see the same woman pacing, patrolling, wandering the edges of the graveyard with mournful eyes fixed on the dirt.

you loathe that, each day, as you pass by, the woman lifts her head and locks eyes with you - those horrible, broken, crying eyes.

you loathe that you know the reason why she weeps.

you dread the night you have to walk home late.

you know the woman will not be so patient, so merciful, come darkness.
