On Mythology

In Greek mythology, Cérix or Cérice (in ancient Greek Κήρυξ) was an Athenian hero, the youngest son of Eumolpus. His father had been a priest of Eleusis and Cérix became the first herald of the Eleusinian mysteries. However, the pious family of the Cérices of Athens who considered themselves their descendants believed that Cérix had been the son of the god Hermes and of Aglaurus, daughter of Cecrops, the first king of Athens. Another version affirms that Cérix was son of Hermes and Pándroso (the third of the daughters of Cécrops).
