༻ Biography ༺
Drops of snow drifted down the windows of Reagan’s hut. The green Coatl didn’t seem to notice the fragile shards covering the stony tracks outside with a fine carpet of shimmer. With cautious paws he gently pressed damp soil in the terracotta pot, softly moulding the earth to fit around the two stalks of roses. After a spritz of water onto the newly-potted plant, Reagan sat back in fulfilled content, watching as the tiny drops of water trickled down the petals.

How long more would he stay here, like this? The dragon couldn’t possibly spend his days walled up in his home on a mountain where snow came and went keeping plants. Of course, there was his herb rack too. As Reagan carefully set the new addition of white roses next to a cactus riddled with spikes, he turned to the wooden shelf that held several mismatched jars of herbs. Every jar was meticulously labelled in his scribbly handwriting with a black fountain pen he’d bought at some market years ago.
It was only then that he decided to venture out. With a child-like grin, Reagan tumbled out his door, taking in the cold air. Fresh snow crumbled under his warm paws as he trudged through it, filling him with delight, pace quickening to explore the mountain he already knew so well. The area always sprouted with different kinds of things. Delicate snowflakes were etched onto a patch drooping white petals, like dainty dancing fairies with snow in their hair. Snowdrops, he easily identified. Purity.
Reagan immediately thought of his parents - lovers, that in seeking respite from ill, lead to death. His father sought a medicinal herb for his ailing mother; his disappearance unexplained. His mother eventually succumbed to eternal sleep and a broken heart.
Maybe he collected plants for a hobby. But deep down, he knew it was an inherited habit of his father’s. He wouldn’t drop it; it stemmed the guilt that wallowed in his chest as a wan smile spread across his cheeks, gazing at the flowers through frozen tears.

Shelves of brass and pottery clutter The snow beats him to his hut A white carpet drifts into the warmth, incessant He enters with a sigh, shaking ice from his pelt Bundled sage, lavender, some bay leaves Bag clasp released to reveal a pink carnation The dragon smiles gently as he rests the blossom In front of a sepia-tinged photograph framed filigree Foggy vision, a trail of salty tears melts the snow.
