The voltage generated by Anake’s spirit alone is enough to power her laboratory in solace. The Obelisk lacks nothing in terms of her passion for experimentation, be it her imagination or willingness to disobey codes of ethics. The participation of other dragons outside of a few necessary lab rats would only muddle the process - or so she claims. Quick as a flit from a tesla coil, her mind reels sharp and fast against the neverending grindstone of scientific progress. It has to. Her memory is in the early stages of failure thanks to degenerative disease - not that anyone within her clan would know, mind you; Anake would rather die than admit to suffering from any sort of health complication, physical or otherwise. Revealing her weakness would open her lab and work to would-be copycats, eager to expose her work under the guise of “helping” her before she can’t be helped. Anake knows what dragons like that want, really - the glory and credit for helping a poor sickly dragon such as herself. Not if her pride has anything to say about it.

So the Obelisk works tirelessly day and night, furthering her research at any cost necessary to reach the finish line before her body does. She runs against an invisible clock nobody but herself is privy to - best to let others think it’s simply her work ethic.
