My verdict on Jack: He is shockingly normal. No, honestly, he is shockingly normal. In a clan full of... beastclan sympathizers and demons and monster hunters and gods know what else. They all seem to have some dark secret, some twist to their nature, but Jack is just... a person. He worked at Starbucks, for hell's sake. If there's anything unusual or remarkable about him, I genuinely, truthfully, cannot find it. It's a bit refreshing, really. He was happy to talk about nothing in particular, sitting me down for a cup of coffee. Apologized that he isn't especially interesting, as if that isn't the biggest relief in my life right about now. Which isn't to say his life has been boring, exactly, but... he is the type of person that does not cause things to happen, but that things happen to. I sympathize with that more than I'm strictly comfortable with. His girlfriend, on the other hand, is the messiah of a fire cult, so gods help me. I've been putting off her interview, as much as he assures me that Agnes is "lovely, really". She can be odd and off putting, he warns, but she is kind. His eyes lit up as he describes her staring longingly at the flowers, her smoldering claws kept carefully out of reach. He speaks of the distance as she watches the sun set with him, speaking about things that he doesn't fully understand. She's a good person, he lands on, eventually. ... perhaps I listened to him speak a bit longer than was strictly necessary, and not just to put off speaking to Agnes. He's... I think he's a good person. I'm glad that he isn't involved in whatever the underbelly of Clan Lucerna is plotting. I hope he isn't, at least. |
