Mystai is rarely any trouble on his own. He's clever, but because he thinks longer about things he's also the most cautious of the hatchlings. Rem first noticed him playing by himself in the corner, carefully bouncing his floating lantern into the air with his nose. She promptly adopted him as her younger brother, and leads him into adventures he wouldn't have tried on his own.

He'd really rather not go to hear Alchemystery's stories, especially the ones about the ice-breathing owlcat ghosts, but he keeps going because he doesn't want to be the coward in front of his creche-mates. He's the one mostly likely to fall asleep curled against Annas afterward. However, when the others have mischief in mind, they know he's the best at figuring out how to make it work.
