Some dragons have poor tempers. Jack comes by his both through nature and nurture.

Following a harsh childhood following abandonment by his mother, he was taken in by a clan of dark-colored dragons that took pity on him. During this time, the only real friends he made were Duradrial, Hallvard, and Corvia, children of the families of this clan. It would be years before he made any others, his temper and guarded nature keeping others at bay.

For a short while, he fought under the Icewarden as a way to try and either find purpose or die. He became an incredible fighter in this time, noted for his brutality and the explosive power of his magics. In time, though, his own self-destructive tendencies found him deserting and hiding away in the Scarred Wasteland, falling victim to his addictive personality and a need to numb his emotions. During this period he spent his days in the company of a strange Tundra, Dai. Dai provided him with some of the herbal medications he sought, but made an effort to keep him from using others. He found himself emotionally wrapped up in the other dragon in a way he was certain went against basically everything natural. This brought him away from the other dragon, and back to his former haunting grounds.

Reunited with Duradrial, Corvia, and Hallvard, they began their own small and mobile clan. Their actions were less than noble, serving their own purposes to amass treasure through extortion, smuggling, and assassinations. They became a feared group in their own right, gaining notoriety for many years. They found themselves satisfied with the reputation they'd earned and began to pursue different types of jobs unique to their different talents. Hired on as a bodyguard for the absolutely bizarre Regina, and as a double-agent for a group of Plague dragons who were horrified by her results and needed information, Jack found himself in a tricky situation when he began to develop deep romantic feelings for the Ridgeback he was supposed to betray. It wasn't helped by the reappearance of Dai in his life, and when Regina showed interest in the Tundra as well, there just wasn't any hope for him, and he gave into his long-held desires.

After turning his back on that group, they attacked - Jack was horrifically injured and very nearly died, but Regina healed him by combining his DNA with that of a Goliath Mountain Beetle, his lost limb regrowing as an armored insectoid leg, his chest hardening with carapace.

When Regina started a lair of her own, there was no question. Jack would be by her side all the way. He knew his friends would be by his side, in the form of allegiance to Regina's sister clans across Sorineth.

Personality: Harsh, quick-tempered, always with a verbal jab on the tip of his tongue. Jack is mistrusting and very nearly paranoid, and ambitious to a fault. This is all a cover for his mental shortcomings, which are numerous. Without his spiky armor he is unsure, and suffers from depression as well as incredibly shaky self-esteem. This is, of course, nothing that anyone other than his mates ever see from him.
Mate: Regina, first and foremost. He admires her, trusts her, and respects her deeply. ...he also has extremely guarded feelings for Dai, who he truly loves deeply, as difficult as it is for him to accept that side of himself.
Familiar: Scotch, a Goliath Mountain Beetle with whom he shares some DNA. Thanks, Regina.
