Biography

merchant miner

Not to be confused with merchant mariner.

He goes where the truth is. (The truth is rocks.) There's a lot of truth out there.

Some dragons (where living is easy) look at where it's not, and think that means uninhabitable (but it doesn't). Og makes a living in the inhospitable

Death Valley

There are more forms of life in the desert than most expect, specialized for survival in temperature extremes and sparse environments, but rarely seen for all that.

Live in the desert long enough, learn its pulse, and eventually they become to easier to spot: the camouflaged, the burrowers, the night-active, the tiny, the terrain-specific and those that only appear after rain.

Domestication is never going to happen without generations of intention present to make it so, but détente between one individual and another, tentative trust encouraged and reinforced for a few animals regularly seen? It's possible. It's worth it, looking for and finally spotting a shape called "friend" in the waste.

(Tchpchp, heyo dustcat. How are you? Tiny tracks in the gully over that way, still fresh. Good hunting.)

Not entirely deliberately, Og befriended a rasa to the point that it responds to Squirreljack and shows up whenever he's near to accompany him for as long as it takes to cross its territory.

Og intermittently shares scraps of food and even taught it how to lap drops from a canteen and Squirreljack, in exchange, brings him easily-lost debris and shinies like beads, mica, bones, seed husks and metal-worked leather.

Never anything of particular value, but nothing Og trades in is. Necessity is the greatest concern for the isolated population that ekes out a living from barrens, with convenience and comfort a fond second thought.
