Clathrus and Amity's hatchlings come into the world regarded with a mix of concern, confusion, and mild suspicion. While there are many who are excited for Magisa's experiments, there are many too who are uncertain, and this uncertainty extends to Clathrus's hatchlings. Even so, he does his best to raise them. Sangre realizes the nature of her situation quickly. Struggling with mobility, she grows to resent those around her: Magisa's cold check-ups, Amity's neglect, and even Clathrus' dumb complacency. She learns to work around her weak body, half through cleverness and half through sheer determination. As she grows older, she learns that while she cannot move quickly, she can move silently. Knowing this will help her down the line, the first thing she does is escape the lair, never looking back.
