The Prince That Kept His Pearl |
B I O G R A P H Y
He was the eldest son of Queen Guinevere and King Konungur, two rulers who should have never encountered the other, yet found each other easily in a nasty storm. Zekka was the product of that meeting, although he was unfamiliar with his father’s kingdom since his father’s Queen had come back from her travels and took her place by his side once more, none the wiser to her King’s wandering attention. Despite the lack of communication about what had transpired behind her back, Zekka was sure she was aware of where he and his hatchmates had come from, as she kept giving his brothers and himself sad and worried looks.
Zekka heard of nests of his half-siblings before he left the kingdom with his mother, having lost both of his brothers when they left. His only imperial sibling stayed with their father and his other brother simply disappeared. He never thought much of the stories. Queen Guinevere kept him protected within her kingdom with his other half-siblings and her courtiers as well as servants. He was never short on playmates and lessons, and watched many of his half-siblings try to kill each other to gain better standing within the court and took these occurrences to heart as warnings.

Zekka grew and soon found a playmate in an older pearlcatcher dragoness, she was only a bit younger than he himself and she was willing to walk the gardens and fields near his home with him. She was kind and seemed to always have a smile on her muzzle. She never gave him her name, instead asking him to call her Mitne, which he found as he grew was ancient draconic for “Light.” she also requested that he tell no one of her. He found it odd that she carried no pearl, nor did he see her go to a hiding place for the object, it simply wasn’t there. She offered no explanation for it’s absence, simply changing the subject or starting a new game.
Zekka grew into a young drake, and soon enough his friend moved on without a word to him of where she was going or that she was leaving at all. Confused, he began training to take his place within his mother’s court and slowly forgot his friend. By the time his mother and those she deemed worthy of teaching him were satisfied that he could pass as a gentleman, he remembered little of his friend yet knew more than he would have wanted about his family. Finding that his half-sisters and half-brothers were often enough bigger threats than assassins and unhappy lower-class dragons, from one of his family he also found he should be thankful to be in his mother’s court for the sake of his pearl.

Finding that his half-sisters and half-brothers were often enough bigger threats than assassins and unhappy lower-class dragons, from one of his family he also found he should be thankful to be in his mother’s court for the sake of his pearl.
Zekka was told rather unkindly about the fate of his father’s pearlcatcher children should they stay in his court, their pearls taken for purposes only known to his father and rumors spoken in whispers. The thought of his pearl being stolen made his scales stand on end and stomach churn uncomfortably because the pearl was precious, his memories-both good and bad, his soul. In the face of his family he learned any emotion that was not blind confidence was seen as weakness and would be used against him to his death if it benefited his siblings.
He found a façade that served him well, becoming cocky, confident and sure in everything he did and becoming vicious if and when the need was there, although he was much more happy lounging on a plush chair or training with a weapon. His mask only ever faltered slightly when faced with his trapped pearl family, feeling a pang of sympathy for them in their trouble yet not daring to show his emotions openly or offer comfort, instead offering jeering and slightly unkind comments.

As he grew in the Court, practice helped him slip into the persona he presented to them and keep his mask firmly in place, much like the armor a warrior may wear. He made sure he was seen in the finest cloths and on occasion armor he owned, keeping his attire neat, clean, and orderly. He is only ever seen in his finest, no matter his mood or the situation he may have found himself in only moments earlier.
Although he knows how to use both sword and bow, he enjoys simply lounging in the court, making sure he is seen by his family, watching and listening as conversations go on around him. He makes note of court intrigue and gossip, all of what he hears and sees can be used later should he need a favor from a family member or should he need to bribe or blackmail.
