Biography
Rhain
rayne Proud | Ambassador of the Toxic Wastes | Scavenger
Backstory Rhain was born to loving parents Raj and Dahlia in the Stillsandur clan not long after the two had moved to the Icefields. He remained there with them for quite some time, long enough to grow very close to his older sister Rahni - and witness the downfall of his mothers' sanity. Dahlia, originally from the Scarred Wasteland, had contracted a parasite that managed to grow strong as soon as she was away from her elemental home. Shortly after Rhain's birth, the parasite had begun to take hold on her mind, and soon she was losing not only scales and feathers, but her very sense of self. Disgusted by his father's denial of the situation and afraid of what would happen, Rhain joined Stillsandur's Plague ambassador Linu on a trip back to the Toxic Wastes in hopes of finding a cure. Unfortunately, though Andiron had the same parasite and was perfectly fine, there were no answers to be found beyond the fact that dragons in the Wasteland were naturally more resistant to illness. Still worried and unwilling to go home, Rhain asked if he could stay, hoping that maybe it would keep himself safe - and he could learn something to aid his mother. In the quest to find a cure, Rhain was distant with most of his new clan members, making it hard for them to get close to him in any meaningful fashion. Only Sia, a fiery young Coatl, was able to make any sort of relationship with him. Confused over most things, Rhain mistook his platonic affections for romantic ones, and he and Sia engaged in a short-lived relationship. In time he would come to realize the source of his emotional confusion was the fact that he didn't like girls at all. Sia, still Rhain's best friend, accepted him for who he was, but shortly thereafter moved to Stillsandur after taking a trip there with Rhain. Alone again, Rhain dedicated himself even more to finding a cure - an answer - anything. When The Bloom occurred, Rhain almost gave up on his quest. Letters from Rahni came few and far between as there was less good news to report on, and he couldn't envision finding anything amidst the clan's new foliage. Then it occurred to him - where better to look for the cure than in the dense plants overtaking the inhospitable Plague lands? He doubled down on his efforts, researching the flora that had resulted from The Bloom and doing his best to keep in high spirits. He still stays in close contact with Rahni, often writing her letters and sending her shiny baubles he finds in his scavenging. In turn, Rahni sends the occasional letter back about the state of their parents, or their younger siblings Zahra and Zinnia - who both came out affected by their mother's disease. As the letters come less and less often, Rhain worries he is running out of time. It's entirely possible he ran out a long time ago. |
