He buried his head into the scrap metal, wires and circuits and failed robots sitting discarded in the heap.

They didn't work.
They never worked.
He had no idea why. The code was correct, the wires soldered properly, the mechanics working perfectly. So why would the robot fizzle out and short circuits?

He threw himself at this wall, tearing through every tome in the Tower and begging the Lorekeepers for every word they held behind their lips.

Late one night, something finally clicked.
They wouldn't work because there was no soul within the metal shell.
