Biography

SHIRAI
"And when the light at once fell down, the curse, complete, encased us all."
"A darkened sky, light only emanating from those adapted with bioluminescent properties and the Enlightened. A charred land, purged beyond recognition, with only ruins left behind by civilizations past. Civilians entombed underground, remains of a prosperous kingdom, awaiting their liberation. Its name, in another lifetime, was Errum'nieth, the continent hidden from the suns.

...or so the story goes."

Shirai was the first to awaken. In this broken world, he stirred from beneath his translucent prison and, with a crack, he was free to walk the lifeless ground.

Surrounding him on all sides, as far as his eyes could see, threatened an array of creatures encased in resin. An array of dragons, just like him.

Horrified by the prospect that he had been one of them, he closed his eyes, trying to make sense of what could have possibly happened to everyone, to no avail. Instead, he decided to find another whose prison had started to break. He eventually settled for an intimidating presence with bright green eyes and ferocious claws.

In eons past, Shirai had been given a trainer for physical combat, but he couldn't remember much happening in terms of actual training. Perhaps a bit worried about his abilities, he started clawing away at the resin, which was surprisingly soft. It didn't take long for his newfound companion to regain consciousness.

Her name was Nightcrawler, and she whispered with a hoarse voice. An unusual expression clouded her face, as Shirai explained everything he remembered. She remarked that he seemed to have a much better recollection in comparison to her own, but chose not to dwell on the topic any longer. They were going to be stuck together for the foreseeable future, anyhow.

What had happened was still a mystery. As night fell, the sky becoming even gloomier, another figure joined the pair around the campfire. She introduced herself as Coelestine. She seemed to have been awake for even longer than Shirai, and he did notice this fact. Why wouldn't she have tried to wake up everyone else, however?

Just as he was about to ask her more questions, a loud howl resounded nearby.

"Do not make a sound," Coelestine beckoned. "I will take care of them."

As quickly as she vanished to "take care of them", she returned, bringing with her one of the howling creatures, unconscious.

"These are called Chacmas."

Baffled, the pair fell silent. Shirai did regain enough of his senses to finally ask her some questions. Apparently, the Chacmas preyed only at night, and were a recent appearance in Errum'nieth. They fed on wildlife, but they did enjoy the resin the dragons had been imprisoned in. They must have been the reason the dragons began to awake in the first place.

"They aren't dangerous to us. At most, we will be competing with them for food."

One thing still bothered Shirai.

"Coelestine... who are you?"

"I am a dragon from before the Fall of Errum'nieth, just like you."

"Then, how long have you been awake?"

"...I never fell asleep."

"Will you be interfering with my plans, then?"

"...No. Do whatever you want. However, I ask that you not anger the new creatures of Errum'nieth. They, too, were forced to this fate."

"Alright. Then we shall rebuild the kingdom anew."
