my lore is forever a work in progress, and follows a "present", ongoing timeframe rather than being a finished story.

lair description wrote:
A large, imposing industrial laboratory the size of a small city. From an outside view, one can see the faint silhouette and lights of desolate and expansive grey buildings, obscured by thick fog. If not for the constant noise emitted by the facility, one would assume it to be abandoned. In the heart of the tempest spire however, where the stormclouds are most violent, it is hard to tell whether the rumbling comes from the skies or the building ahead.

It has multiple underground passages reaching all the way to the edges of the lightning farm. These enormous passageways, once kept secret, are now primarily used as a means of transportation to and from multiple cargo stations. With the sandsurges' recent reemergence, it is speculated to previously have been their area of operations.

The institute is mostly concerned with its personal endeavor of obtaining knowledge of the unknown. They are primarily recognized as a research site - but they also dabble in areas such as construction and manufacturing.

They are renowned for being the leading innovators in stormguide tech - due to the job hazards associated with harvesting, stormguides need to be rigged with various instruments. Harvesting as an occupation is heavily monopolized by the institute, a task made easy by means of also being the the largest and most experienced producer of stormguide equipment.

Research employees are sorted under three main categories - engineers, scientists, and technicians.
Scientists work to expand our database of knowledge. The facility houses scientists of all kinds, from chemists to physicists, and even medical researchers.
Engineers come up with plausible solutions to certain problems. They work closely with our scientists and technicians, often acting as a bridge between the two.
Technicians are the guys who make those solutions work and bring them to life. They also comprise most of the facility's workforce.
-maintenance/repairs personnel fall under technicians.
---> I am aware that these are technically just definitions, but I wanted to elaborate how they work in my lair

Staff in the storm towers are sorted under a special "harvester" category. This includes all staff assigned to the towers - maintenance crew, technicians, and various ground crew. The prominent roles within the towers are stormguides, marshalls, and controllers. Stormguides "guide" lightning into collection points, hence the name. Marshalls in turn direct stormguides into those points, and controllers monitor ongoing flights to make sure they go smoothly.

there are also office guys who do paperwork and miscellaneous but ever invaluable staff like your janitors and receptionists, secretaries.. etc..

Stormguides are kitted with a plethora of instruments that allow them to fly in extreme low-visibility weather. These instruments are considered a necessity.

currently no details regarding controllers. Their role is near-identical to real-life Air Traffic Controllers.
