When Morpha's eggs hatch, Cilla and Nine are almost as excited as he is. The three of them coo over the hatchlings while Evrain hangs back, unsure of his place in his own hatchlings' lives. Yunalesca takes to Cilla immediately, trailing the coatl matriarch around like a duckling. Unable to say no to such a cute hatchling, Cilla ends up taking Yunalesca along to most of the clan's meetings. She grows up at the war table, and the older she gets, the more closely she listens. The more she listens, the more she realizes that Cilla is a leader in name only. Hemlock gets the final say on most matters, deferring to his matriarch only as a formality. She realizes as well, with time, that whatever Hemlock is angling for, the best interests of the clan don't seem t factor into it. She attempts to warn Cilla about it, but Cilla refuses to listen, telling her that all is well, and she'll understand better in time. Angry with the patronizing response, Yunalesca takes wing.
