Lithiyan's parents died shortly after he and his sister Kehua were born. The two siblings were left to fend for themselves, traveling to Ice in hopes of finding a home. Despite the fact that the pair were twins, Lithiyan matured at a much younger age than Kehua and took up his place as 'big brother' very quickly (this may be owed, in part, to his significantly larger size).

I shouldn't have left.
I abandoned my brother when I shouldn't have. For stupid goals. Stupid reasons. Thinking I could beat Mystiko to the prize. I should have known she would turn and kill me.
My brother, Kehua, came to warn me; hunted me down desperately, worrying for my safety, crying out to let her--yes, I refer to my sister as 'brother,' as that is what we agreed to call each other when we were young-- help me. She came running, chasing after me as I bounded across the cracked, icy ground, leaping over canyons and fissures. Mystiko was running not far behind, and Kehua was calling after me worriedly, but I didn't listen. Not then. I was too absorbed in the race, in the adrenaline, and I didn't hear either of them.
That's when Mystiko slammed into my side with a blast of ice shards and sent me tumbling into the canyon I was leaping across. Shards of stone and ice protruded like spears from the ground. I tried to spread my wings, but they merely scraped the icy walls, unable to stop my fall.
And then I hit the ground. A fall from that height would not kill an Imperial; it would merely break some bones. But the ice shards on the ground impaled me through the gut and chest, quickly slamming me into a wall of darkness.

And then I opened my eyes. Stood up. Looked down at where I had been laying to find my own bloodied corpse on the ground, Kehua standing over it in horror. I could hear Mystiko's wingbeats rapidly fading into the distance. My brother's eyes were dark and wet with shadowy tears. After closing the eyes of my corpse, Kehua leapt into the air and soared after Mystiko.
I followed her. She could not see me. I couldn't fathom--refused to fathom-- what just happened. I refused to think I was a ghost. I refused to think I was dead. I felt entirely disconnected from the idea of that.
But at the same time, I knew she couldn't see me.
And I also knew that the body she had been weeping over was most definitely mine.
