Biography
Khione of snowfalls, she grew up crying for the moon. She wanted its demure glow, particularly on cloudy nights where it gazed down, slightly blue. In her youth she knew only how to pine, but as the decades passed, there birthed a strength inside her, hard as diamonds. Her feathers may be soft, but at her core, she’s the cool icy moon, relentlessly shining even when the night tries to throw a shroud over the entire world. She’s the sprinkle of snow like stars, hovering upon a breath in the sky, politely ignoring the night.
She’s also an eater of pomegranate seeds, so her courtship with the night was hardly unsuspected. Nox of stormy evenings, of an agate stone on the finger of a fairy queen— legend has it that he kidnapped her. Khione rolls her eyes at the melodramatic bonfire tales. The truth is much simpler, yet at once much more complicated, because he offered, yes, and she took. But she took for others. The brilliant-cut gems that adored Nox’s skin, they bore more weight with the outside world than all the treasures they would find, and the fact of the matter is, stories aren’t always purely of fantasy. Sometimes, they suffer the taint of practicality, of money, of a failing economy leaving dragons— hatchlings— in destitute. Khione of a bleeding heart. She bleeds pink and Nox says it’s cute, but she wonders. She wonders at the role she plays in the barren, bleeding skin on her lover’s wings, in the shape of cut gems. Her resolution wanes on nights like this, when she is covered in so much love, so much care, and she can’t seem to block out the sound of blood dripping to the floor, sounding softer and more constant than rain, like a breath of snow that falls slow and cold.
