A Day's Work
Riptide shifted a claw to cover her face as the first rays of sunlight landed on her closed eyes. She slowly woke from sleep as more and more light flooded into the small cave her and Seaweed shared, before shifting out of bed as silently as possible so as not to wake her mate.
Though as she quietly slipped her overcoat and wing fan on, Riptide heard the green guardian shifting in the bed. She cursed herself under her breath- one of these days, she thought, I'll slip out of the cave without waking her. Though the mirror simply shrugged the slight disappointment off before making her way to the entrance of the cave, only pausing to wave goodbye to Seaweed before she stepped out into the hallway.
Riptide took a moment to stare down into the descending tunnel that connected the ant-hill like maze of caves that made up Terreneuvia. No matter how many times she had to make the trip down to the docks, it always unsettled her just how straight and narrow the way down was- something about seeing the ocean from deep in a cave just wasn't right. But her boat and it's passengers were waiting for her, so off she went, careful not to slip on any loose stones.
"Ah, Riptide. You finally made it down." A fae already aboard her boat waved as the mirror walked out on to the dock. "You know some dragons have places to be."
"I'll eat you for breakfast if you're not careful, miss Nim." Riptide winked at the fae as she hopped onto the deck beside her.
Nemertea's eyes went wide as she stammered to retrace her steps. "I- I was just joking- how do you know my nickname?!"
"As the captain of old Copper Shark here," She said as she patted the side of the rocking boat. "I see a lot. Including you and that mirror."
The fae covered her face with her frills in embarrassment. "Don't tell Anglerfish, please. . ."
Riptide laughed. "Your secret's safe with me, don't worry." She ruffled up Nemertea's frills as she went to untie Copper Shark from the dock, before making her way over to the captain's room to pilot the boat. "Everyone in?" She called, scanning the entrance to Terreneuvia before swinging herself into the cockpit and grabbing on to the PA system and holding it up to her mouth.
"First stop, Hoverview Vale, coming up in about one hour!"
